Description
The HI3812-100 reagent set enables users to quickly and accurately measure total hardness in water samples using the HI3812 chemical test kit. The test procedure involves buffering the sample to pH 10 and adding the calmagite color indicator, which forms a red complex with calcium and magnesium ions. EDTA titrant is then added to bind the remaining free metal ions. At the titration endpoint, excess EDTA displaces the ions bound to the indicator, producing a color change from red to blue, which indicates the total hardness of the sample. A precise measurement of the titrant volume determines the hardness in mg/L CaCO3.
Monitoring total hardness is critical because high levels of calcium and magnesium can cause scale formation in pipes, reduce soap efficiency, and impact industrial water processes. The HI3812-100 replacement reagents ensure that water laboratories, treatment plants, and industrial facilities can continue testing efficiently without purchasing a new kit, providing consistent, reliable results for water hardness management.
