Hanna Instruments Free Chlorine Test Kit – HI3831F

A colorimetric chemical test kit, the HI3831F, measures free chlorine levels in the range of 0.0 to 2.5 mg/L (ppm). All the tools and supplies required for the analysis are provided to the HI3831F. There are enough reagents in the test kit to conduct about 50 tests.

When reagents run out, a new kit does not need to be purchased. To replace the reagents included with the kit, order the HI3831F-050 reagent set. One (20mL) dropper bottle of Reagent 1 and one (15mL) dropper bottle of Reagent 2 are included in this reagent set.

Relevance of Use
Disinfection is the process of eradicating pathogens (or pathogens). Due to its ability to produce hypochlorous acid (HOCl) and hydrochloric acid when combined with pure water, chlorine (Cl2) is a highly effective disinfectant (HCl). The best type of chlorine for cleaning swimming pools, spas, and drinking water is HOCl (free active chlorine).

Municipalities that produce drinking water add elemental chlorine to the water supply in the form of chlorine gas, sodium hypochlorite solution in liquid form, or dry calcium hypochlorite. These combine to create free chlorine ions in water, which eradicate germs, reduce odour, and assist remove impurities. They also kill disease-causing microorganisms. In order to ensure that there is disinfectant available throughout the distribution system, the USEPA mandates that residual disinfectant be present in finished drinking water. Chlorine serves as one of the disinfectants that supplies said residual. Due to probable health impacts above this level, the EPA has also set a maximum contaminant threshold for free chlorine of 4.0 mg/L.
