Fungilab- Viscometer – Hoppler Viscometer

The Hoppler / Viscoball Viscometer is a high-precision falling-ball viscometer designed to measure dynamic and kinematic viscosity of transparent Newtonian liquids and gases. It is suitable for a wide range of industries including chemical, food, cosmetics, petroleum, and coatings.

  • Wide Viscosity Range – Covers 0.5 to 105 mPa·s (cP) using a kit of 6 balls with different materials (glass, nickel-iron alloy, stainless steel).
  • Accurate & Reliable – Reproducibility better than 0.5%, comparability better than 1%, using standardized DIN 53015 / ISO 12058 methods.
  • Flexible Measurement – Provides dynamic (cP/mPa·s) and kinematic (cSt) readings; ball return time can be used for additional measurements.
  • Complete Kit & Accessories – Supplied with 6 balls, control thermometer, cleaning tools, calibration sheet, pincers, and user manual for immediate use.

Description

The Fungilab Hoppler (Viscoball) Viscometer is a high-precision instrument for measuring the viscosity of Newtonian liquids and gases with exceptional accuracy. Compliant with DIN 53015 and ISO 12058, it operates on the falling-ball principle, where the rolling and sliding motion of a ball through the sample liquid is timed in an inclined cylindrical tube. The dynamic viscosity is then calculated based on the time required for the ball to traverse a fixed distance. The viscometer comes with a set of six balls made from borosilicate glass, nickel-iron alloy, and stainless steel, covering a wide viscosity range from 0.5 mPa·s to over 10⁵ mPa·s, making it suitable for applications across the mineral oil, chemical, food, cosmetic, pharmaceutical, petroleum, paint, and paper industries.

Designed for flexibility and ease of use, the Viscoball viscometer features a fixed or adjustable angle, simple thermostatic control compatible with Fungilab Thermovisc systems, and both dynamic (cP or mPa·s) and kinematic (cSt) readings. Its high reproducibility (better than 0.5%) and comparability (better than 1%) ensure reliable results, while improved visibility of the falling ball and accurate return runs reduce test time. The instrument is supplied with a control thermometer, cleaning tools, calibration sheet, and pincers for handling the balls, with optional glass thermometers and special balls available for gases or specific temperature ranges. With long-lasting components, extended re-calibration intervals, and broad industrial applicability, the Hoppler Visc

Measuring principle
The rolling and sliding movements of a ball through the sample liquid are timed in an inclined cylindrical measuring tube. The sample viscosity is correlated to the time a ball requires to traverse a definite distance. By turning the measuring tube upside down again the return of the ball may also be used for an additional measurement applying the return cons- tant. The test results are given as dynamic viscosity in the internationally standardized, absolute units of mPa·s.
