Description
The HI96822 Digital Seawater Refractometer enables precise salinity analysis of natural and synthetic seawater by converting the refractive index of a sample into PSU, ppt, or specific gravity (20/20). These conversions are based on widely accepted scientific references, including the work of UNESCO, ICES, SCOR, and IAPSO. The built-in automatic temperature compensation ensures accurate measurements across a temperature range of 0–40°C (32–104°F), while small sample requirements and simple one-point calibration make it practical for laboratory, field, or home aquarium testing. Standard NaCl solutions can also be used to verify meter accuracy.
Using a yellow LED light, prism, and linear image sensor, the HI96822 analyzes how light interacts with the seawater sample to determine its salinity. Key features include a dual-level LCD for simultaneous salinity and temperature display, stainless steel sample well, IP65 water-resistant casing, automatic shut-off after 3 minutes of inactivity, and battery indicator. The meter is lightweight and portable, making it an ideal tool for oceanography research, aquaculture, and aquarium management.
