The HI3811 Alkalinity Chemical Test Kit provides a simple and precise method to measure both Phenolphthalein and Total Alkalinity in water samples. The sample is titrated with a supplied acid reagent in the presence of phenolphthalein and bromophenol blue indicators. Phenolphthalein Alkalinity neutralizes hydroxide ions and part of the carbonate ions, while Total Alkalinity continues the titration to pH 4.5 to quantify all carbonate and bicarbonate ions. The volume of titrant used determines the sample’s alkalinity with 1 mg/L and 3 mg/L resolution, depending on the range.
Monitoring alkalinity is essential to control water corrosiveness, manage boiler and cooling systems, and maintain proper water chemistry in drinking water and wastewater applications. The HI3811 kit is self-contained, including all necessary consumables for testing, and replacement reagents (HI3811-100) are available, providing a cost-effective, repeatable solution for routine alkalinity testing.
