Description
The TQC Pencil Hardness Test according to the Wolff Wilborn method is a reliable and standardized solution for evaluating the scratch hardness of paints and coatings. Designed to comply with major international standards including ISO 15184, ASTM D3363, JIS K-5600, ECCA-T4-1, and BS 3900-E19, this instrument minimizes operator influence by maintaining a fixed 45° angle and constant applied load. Available in two models—VF2377 (750 g + 1000 g) and VF2378 (750 g)—the tester allows accurate determination of coating resistance by moving graded pencils across the surface under controlled pressure. The result is determined by visually assessing which pencil hardness causes surface damage, providing a clear and repeatable hardness rating.
Ideal for furniture finishes, automotive coatings, lacquers, and synthetic resin development, the instrument ensures consistent and reproducible scratch testing. Each unit is supplied in a durable aluminum case and includes a complete set of 20 Koh-i-noor pencils ranging from 6B to 8H (or 9B to 9H depending on configuration), along with a precision sharpener. The standardized holder allows quick pencil exchange to reduce downtime, while the controlled load options (500 g, 750 g, or 1000 g depending on model and standard) ensure full compliance with testing requirements. This simple yet effective method provides laboratories and quality control departments with dependable hardness assessment for coating performance evaluation.
