Description
The BGD 298 Pfund Cryptometer offers a simple and reliable method for evaluating the spreading power and opacity of coatings. The instrument consists of a half-black, half-white glass base plate with engraved scales, and two transparent top plates with metal supports. Each top plate has a wedge angle constant (K) that determines the angle at which the paint is spread. By pressing the top plate over a blob of paint placed at the black/white division, the operator can determine the minimum film thickness required to obscure both areas, ensuring accurate assessment of a coating’s hiding power.
Designed for laboratory and industrial use, the Cryptometer provides repeatable, accurate, and easy-to-read measurements. It allows users to calculate coverage in square meters per liter and can handle coatings containing pigments. The inclusion of multiple top plates with different wedge constants ensures flexibility for testing light and dark colored paints, as well as coatings of higher or lower opacity, making it a versatile tool for quality control and research applications.
