Obsnapmeter- Abrasion Testers – Taber Falling Sand Abrasion

The Taber Falling Sand Abrasion Tester measures the abrasion resistance of paints, lacquers, plastics, and other coatings by allowing standardized sand to fall through a tube onto a coated specimen positioned at a 45° angle.

  • ASTM D968 Based Design Built according to internationally recognized standards for consistent and reliable abrasion testing.
  • Controlled Sand Flow System Features an 8″ sand reservoir with 60° funnel and a 36″ guide tube to ensure uniform abrasive impact.
  • Angled Specimen Testing Test panels are mounted at a 45° angle, allowing falling sand to simulate real wear conditions.
  • Durable & Stable Construction Rigid vertical support system with removable viewing window and specimen receptacle for accurate and repeatable results.

Description

The Falling Sand Abrasion Tester is broadly used to measure the abrasion resistance of paint, lacquers and other organic coatings. Based on a design described in ASTM D 968 and other internationally recognized test standards, the Falling Sand Abrasion Tester consists of an 8′ diameter sand reservoir which includes a 60° taper funnel. Standardized abrasive particles placed in the reservoir are released to a guide tube by an abrasive flow gate key. The guide is a 36′ straight, smooth-bore tube which contains the abrasive particles as they fall. Specimens are fixed under the guide tube at a 45° angle in a receptacle that includes an opening at the bottom allowing the abrasive particles to be collected in a container. A sturdy base and support system hold the apparatus in a vertical position.
