Description
The Met One SASS and SUPER SASS Speciation Samplers are advanced, portable systems designed for high-precision ambient particulate monitoring, focusing on PM2.5 mass, trace metals, organic and elemental carbon, sulfates, nitrates, and other ions. The SASS system accommodates up to five canisters, while the SUPER SASS supports up to eight, each with active flow-controlled channels at 6.7–6.9 L/min per canister. Both systems utilize sharp cut cyclones (D50 2.5 µm) and multicell denuders with magnesium oxide, sodium carbonate, or citric coatings, along with 47 mm FRM filters, ensuring high-quality, contaminant-free sample collection. Temperature, volumetric flow, start/stop times, and sampler status are logged at five-minute intervals, and solar-protected, wind-aspirated shields maintain filter temperatures within 5°C above ambient, preserving sample integrity.
The SUPER SASS expands on the SASS functionality with sequential, multi-day sampling capability, allowing for continuous operation of up to eight days. It features four separate volumetric flow controllers for autonomous channel operation, enabling precise, independent management of multiple sample streams. Both systems are mounted on tripods with environmental control boxes, utilizing two-head diaphragm vacuum pumps powered by 110 V AC and a 12 V DC fan. These samplers are ideal for field audits, environmental research, and regulatory monitoring, providing reliable, high-resolution speciation data for PM2.5 constituents in both short-term and extended sampling campaigns.
