Met One- 820457 Ultrasonic Wind Sensor

The Met One 820457 Ultrasonic Wind Sensor is a high-precision, weather-resistant instrument designed to measure wind speed and direction with rapid response and low starting thresholds. It offers both digital and analog outputs, making it suitable for environmental monitoring, climate research, and meteorological stations.

  • Accurate Wind Measurement: Measures wind speed up to 75 m/s and direction across 360°, with ±2% accuracy for speed and ±2° for direction.
  • Fast Response: Responds in under 0.25 seconds, capturing rapid changes in wind conditions.
  • Flexible Outputs: Supports RS232/RS485 serial communication, ASCII/NMEA/RMYT formats, and adjustable analog outputs (0–5000 mV or 4–20 mA).
  • Durable & Weatherproof: Operates in -40°C to +60°C, IP65-rated, and lightweight (0.4 kg), with optional heated version for extreme conditions.

Description

The Met One 820457 Ultrasonic Wind Sensor is a high-precision, rugged instrument designed for accurate measurement of wind speed and direction in a wide range of environmental conditions. Capable of detecting wind speeds from 0 to 75 m/s with a resolution of 0.01 m/s and wind direction from 0° to 360° with 0.1° resolution, the sensor delivers rapid response times of less than 0.25 seconds. Accuracy is maintained at ±2% ± 0.1 m/s for speeds up to 30 m/s, and ±3% up to 65 m/s. Its versatile outputs include RS232/RS485 serial communication, multiple ASCII and NMEA formats, and adjustable analog outputs (0–5000 mV or 4–20 mA), making it compatible with a wide range of data acquisition systems.

Built for durability, the 820457 operates in extreme temperatures from −40°C to +60°C and features an IP65-rated enclosure for protection against dust and water. The sensor supports multiple wind data units (m/s, mph, knots, km/h) and configurable output update rates from 0.1 to 20 Hz, with optional heating for frost and ice prevention. Compact and lightweight at only 0.4 kg, it is ideal for ambient monitoring, climate research, and environmental monitoring, offering a reliable solution for precise, real-time wind measurements in both remote and industrial applications.
